Thinking of starting to vlog
Wednesday, October 19th, 2005Have been thinking of new ways to improve flummo.com and got think of the “new hype” vlogs (video+blogging). I got plenty of webspace (and bandwidth for that sake) and also an almost unused webcam lying around on my desktop. Combining these and I got the perfect ground to start vlogging on. One thing missing is some kind of software. The idea with blogging is that it should be easy and it shouldn’t take long to just give a few opinions on what you think or how you feeling today. A manual vlog would mean editing, encoding, uploading, include media on the page - I guess this would give good result, but it’s to much work so I would loose interest very quickly. So I started to search the net..
And I found a software called “Patchouli Producer”. It’s currently in beta stage, but I think the software is exactly what I need. I can easily record a webcam session in it and then just press upload and have it upload and post it to my blog. Currently only a blogsoftware called dotNet is supported, but I have contacted the developer and he seems positive in letting me convert his plugin to Wordpress (wich I use). I’ll keep you updated on things to come..
Update: Apparantly the programmer behind Patchouli Producer aint going to release the software as Open Source or Freeware, so I have to give it a thought if I’d still be interested in helping out. I thought it was being done for the community and it seems all he wanna do is earn money. I’m not blaiming him, the idea is great and will probablly sell alot however I was hoping for a FREE version of it.
