“Fy faaaaan!”
The title is a swedish curse and was told to me and my partner walking hand in hand in Stockholm city this weekend. It was said by a “normal” man in the age around 50-55 something walking with his wife. Apparantly he doesn’t fancy us gay people as much as I do.
These things doesn’t upset me or discourages me at all, it just makes me curious of what the man get out of saying stuff like this. I would understand better if someone really hurts their hateobjects, but just saying out a curse isn’t much worth if you ask me. He didn’t even use any “feeling” in the words, just like a normal line; “Fy faaaan!”.
Since I like debates and discussions, this would have been a golden oppertunity to confront the man and ask what he had against me (us). It was in a crowded place, so if the man would have turned violent we would have loads of witnesses. However it all came so sudden and I think I was in a middle of a conversation with my partner. Just didn’t have time to react, but next time the “harasser” won’t get as lucky as this time.. ![]()

Hmm.. Not sure I can find an english translation for it, but in this case it clearly meant he was really disgusted. However the curse itself can be used in many occasions.

Wow, do people do that even in Stockholm? When I held my ex’s hand when he wasn’t ex in public, we weren’t cursed because that was so shocking to them for sure.
Most of them just looked at us with dirty eyes. That was fun. anyway, it’s kewl you can hold hands in public. I can’t casually do that unfortunatelly. Well, I might.
By the way, your comment thingy is so kewl. When I type things, I see what I typed in the preview section. This is so coool.

Sad, that.
And “fy fan” would literally translate into something like “fie, devil”… but a good English equivalent would be “goddamn.”

Didn’t know things like that happen even in Stockholm!
That is a real dissapointment to me.
Stupidity is universal.
