Administration of patGal

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005

So, I think I got most of the basics of patGal ready, but the most important functions still remains to do; The upload part. So far I’ve came up with two ideas for this, either in wp-admin or directly in the gallery (once logged in). Both has it’s benefits, so to me this is a hard choice. Either way it will have some options in wp-admin for settings like paths, thumbsettings and also design. Please use comments in this post or the contact page to send me personally.

Changes in patGal

Monday, June 20th, 2005

Even thou I didn’t get it in for the contest, the project is still alive. However I have been thinking abit about it and I will add a functionality I haven’t seen in a webgallery yet. However the feature I am talking about is taking over pretty much all photoorganizers on the market. What I’m talking about is tags instead of categories.

This means you can add a picture with multiple tags to get better searching options as well as a nicer structure. I’m aware that some users only want categories and with this method they still can. They only have to add one tag to each picture and the gallery will work just as any gallery software out there. Only thing remaining is how I will build the structure. Maybe make it like a normal category based gallery, but make another “tag index” where you be more specific about what pictures you want. If you got any suggestions or ideas, you know what to do. :D

“Fy faaaaan!”

Monday, June 20th, 2005

The title is a swedish curse and was told to me and my partner walking hand in hand in Stockholm city this weekend. It was said by a “normal” man in the age around 50-55 something walking with his wife. Apparantly he doesn’t fancy us gay people as much as I do.

These things doesn’t upset me or discourages me at all, it just makes me curious of what the man get out of saying stuff like this. I would understand better if someone really hurts their hateobjects, but just saying out a curse isn’t much worth if you ask me. He didn’t even use any “feeling” in the words, just like a normal line; “Fy faaaan!”.

Since I like debates and discussions, this would have been a golden oppertunity to confront the man and ask what he had against me (us). It was in a crowded place, so if the man would have turned violent we would have loads of witnesses. However it all came so sudden and I think I was in a middle of a conversation with my partner. Just didn’t have time to react, but next time the “harasser” won’t get as lucky as this time.. ;)

Long live my CPU

Friday, June 17th, 2005

It’s good to be wrong times to times. Especially this weekend. Juha and I had finally decided to figure out what was causing the loud noise coming from one of our computers. We soon understood it was the CPU fan and since we were going to town this day, we started to visit some onlinestores to see where we could find a cheap one today. Found a Zalman 7700B CPU fan for a small amount of money and after some nice time in town, we went home to give it a go.

At first glance, we thought we both lost our minds. We couldn’t figure out how to get rid of the old CPU fan. It was the default one that came with the CPU fan so it’s really nothing fancy. We losened the handles and tried to remove it, but it wouldn’t budge. This lead to some more force, since no other handles/levers were visible. All of a sudden it came loose, but to our suprise the CPU went with it. WITHOUT loosing it’s lever holding it to place. This is bad, REAL bad. Keeping our hopes up, we tried to split the two Onitems but they wouldn’t move. The only thing that came to our mind, was heating it up abit and hope for it to budge. Since neither me or Juha owns a haird (for obvious reasons), we went to Juhas job to use a heatgun (?).

once we arrived and made our preparations, we noticed some of the pins were bent. I had probablly dealt with it a bit hard on the way here. Anyway, we used the heatgun and tried to aim at the old fan metals. This got REAL hot and finally the CPU went loose. At this time, I ‘d given up all hopes of getting it to work. I was sure that when I’ve gotten it in place and put the power on, nothing would happened. I mean, it first removed by force in a unnatural way, had it’s pins bent and also heated to alot more than a normal CPU should live with. But against all this, I was wrong. The PC booted just fine and with the new CPU fan it was now cooler and alot more quite. :D

Once we were in town, we also had a little quality time together. Ate a nice chineselunch (bit to early, but it tasted great) and went to the cinema to see Star Wars Ep III.

This is a disapointment!

Oh well, it’s been a looooong time since I took some time to write here. Mainly I don’t understand why, but maybe it’s because I’ve been to stressed out about stuff. Got loads of projects I am working on, but same it feels I got none. Took a week off from work to get some of the projects done and also to watch our cats while Juha went away on a business trip. I planned to get loads of stuff done, but ended up doing almost nothing more than I usually do in a week.

Had a doctors apointment that week (read last week) to get some understanding in what’s causing my nosetroubles. Apparantly it’s something in my nose (called näsmusslor in swedish) that’s a bit big, but she (the doctor) couldn’t tell if I was born like this or if they were swelled. Apparantly this could have something to do with the headaches as well, so I got a nasalspray I will be using 2 times/day in 3 weeks. After this I will get back to her and see if it’s gotten any better.

patGal will be my main priority to get done, but I doubt I will get enough time to get it done before contest ends. However I got loads of photos I wanna post, so I will hopefully keep my motivation up because of that. :D
